What is the pattern
of right relation?
01 / The body
We start at the body.
We start at the body because it's the system that provides the foundation for everything else that happens, and it's the only thing that we actually share in common. I was thinking about that today. One of the things that's so important about music is that it lets us know that we're not alone. Art and music let us know that beautiful things exist within other people, and that some part of what's in your soul is not just in you, but out there somewhere. It's an adjoining sort.
02 / Relationship
The conditions of becoming.
The book is about what makes a human being become more fully human—or progressively lose access to their humanity—and how the same principles can be used to design relationships, institutions, and environments that cultivate rather than destroy human capacity.
Human beings are embodied, relational organisms whose capacities are continuously shaped by the systems they inhabit. Healing is therefore neither merely internal nor merely social: it is the deliberate creation of conditions in which healthier human capacities can emerge, be practiced, and become self-sustaining.
03 / The honeycomb
Coherence through relationship.
The bee is the agent.
The hive is the intelligence.
The honeycomb is intelligence made material.
The harmonic is the relationship that allows many distinct bodies to become coherent without ceasing to be distinct. The comb is especially important because it is not imposed from outside. No architect stands above the bees holding a blueprint. Form emerges through local perception, embodied action, shared constraints and continuous adjustment. Each bee responds to what is immediately present, yet the collective produces an ordered structure beyond any individual bee’s comprehension.
